The Modbury Hospital Upgrade finalized in June 2021, this project involved much planning and a sensitive approach being carried out in a working hospital environment.
Including an asbestos hygiene clean within all levels throughout the hospital from Basement to Level 5.
Demolition works completed included service termination, penetrations, removal of all man-made features including; paving, retaining walls, gazebos, plant and shrubbery, roads, kerbing, stairs, entry canopies and precast panels. Temporary engineering propping was also installed and prepared by D&V Services.
Civil works was also completed to OPD, included bulk earthworks, subgrade improvement and installation of building plateau.
Works were carried out to a strict program for dust control to meet infection control requirements within each stage. No dust, water or foreign objects were allowed to enter any spaces outside the construction zone. Dust extraction fans and filtration systems were installed to negatively pressurize the work zone and contain any dust. Daily site cleans were carried out on the completion of each day, the complete work zone, including any paths travelled were frequently cleaned to ensure compliance to infection control requirements.
In addition to dust control, noise suppression was also an issue to overcome, being within a working hospital, all equipment and plant had to used with discretion to not cause a nuisance to public, staff and patients.
98% of waste materials removed from site was taken for recycling.
